This year I started my race season on the 2nd of April at the Capenwray RR, the latest I have ever started racing in the year. I really didn’t know what to expect. In previous years I have done well in this race but I was not going into the race like I’ve felt in the past.

It was a lovely sunny day racing 6 times up the hill.

Not only my first race of the year it was also the first race with my sister Rhiannon who is a first year junior.

As soon as the neutralised section was over the race was off. I was next to Rhiannon and told her to get on my wheel, ‘you ready?’ ‘Lets go’

Straight to the front of the bunch and I could relax. I knew Rhiannon would be fine for the rest of the race. I didn’t think I would be so worried about her in the race!

There wasn’t much attacking though out the race, however most of the racing was on the hill. My legs felt strong but slow, defiantly missing race speed.

Not a result I would have been happy with in previous years but I enjoyed my race. From my perspective I had a great race, maybe not the result others might expect from me but the result isn’t always the most important part of a race.

Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.

P.S. If you’re out there racing, remember to enjoy yourself!
